Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church

Location: Jackson, Wyoming
Architect: Ward+Blake Architects
Contractor: Ormond Builders

This highly visible renovation and addition project is located in Jackson, Wyoming at the southern gateway of Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks.

Among the several challenges to be resolved was the lack of natural lighting. Working with Sierra Pacific Windows, the architect introduced a clerestory and numerous large windows to provide a lantern of light shining on the Altar and the diagonal glue-lam bents that culminate above the Altar. The results were stunning. The new windows bathe the previously dark spaces with indirect natural light and vibrant colors from stained glass.

The exterior materials and roof forms ground the building within the vernacular of the local architecture and the character of the surrounding mountains. The new sixty-foot campanile serves as a visual beacon for the congregants.
