National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an environmental action organization whose goal is to protect the planet's wildlife and to foster a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Headquartered in New York City, NRDC also has three regional offices located in Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Los Angeles (Santa Monica).

NRDC's new office in Southern California is at the forefront of green building design in the United States. They chose this 1920s-era structure in Santa Monica's pedestrian center to take advantage of existing services like transit and to avoid building on undeveloped land. NRDC had the building redesigned to conserve water and energy and to showcase environmentally sound materials. An environmental learning center is featured on the ground floor. The result: a building that is sustainable, economical and educational.

NRDC received the highest certification available for green building design - a Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

Sierra Pacific is proud to have supplied sustainable window and door products for this noteworthy project.

Sierra Pacific Industries completed independent audits of our forestlands, wood procurement policies, millwork and window manufacturing under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative guidelines. Therefore, we are authorized to label our window and door products with the SFI label. This continuing effort demonstrates Sierra Pacific's commitment to the environment and to the green building effort. The SFI label on our windows and doors gives the green build community an easily identifiable mark of Sierra Pacific's environmentally friendly and sustainable product line.
